The counselor at AIS - West addresses the academic, social, and psychological needs of the Middle School Students. The counselor’s work is differentiated by attention to the developmental stages of student growth. The counselor works with all students and parents on a confidential basis, or within a team approach. The counselor assists students through four primary interventions: counseling (individual and group), large group guidance, consultation and coordination. The counselor provides students with services to enhance personal and academic achievement and development. The counselor helps students with selection of classes each year and career awareness, personal concerns, curriculum information, and study skills assistance.

The Middle School learning support teachers provide push-in and pull-out services for students who require additional support in reaching the curriculum. Students requiring academic intervention are those with significant learning gaps in literacy-based subjects, are not making expected progress despite classroom strategies and have identified additional learning needs or learning difficulties ( Psych-Ed reports).
