There are 3 mandatory interviews with your CAS Advisor and/or CAS Coordinator.
Interview 1: Proposal of activities
Interview 2: Check on progress
Interview 3: Exit interview
Please ensure that you familiarise yourself with the CAS rubrics (see following pages) that your CAS advisor will use when conducting each interview with you. It is advisable that you check your CAS portfolio using the correct rubric to ensure that you go prepared to each interview.
This interview is to check that you have started your CAS experiences, you are reflecting/evidencing and you understand the programme.
You have a lot of choice in your CAS programme, but with that comes a lot of responsibility to actually do something!
The focus should be on the Investigation and Preparation stages of CAS, your CAS goals and Learning Outcomes. You may also want to talk about your CAS Project
You should have started between 2-3 challenging experiences (from a minimum of 2 different CAS strands) and these should be well planned (have a goal and a timeline)
Each experience should have an agreed supervisor
You should be able to explain how each experience fits with the Learning Outcomes
You should have an idea about what you want to do for your CAS Project
Normally held towards the end of Year 1 of the DP.
This interview helps reflection and checks progress towards meeting all of the requirements and learning outcomes.
Focus on the Action and Reflection stages. Students should be encouraged to think about challenges they have faced and how they have tackled them.
Students should discuss their progress towards each learning outcome and identify any areas not yet met
Students should provide hard evidence in their portfolio to support their work in each learning outcome.
Review goals and set new goals for year 12
Decide which activities the student should continue with up to year 12 – rationalise to meet LOs but not overstress their time (again, quality not quantity)
This normally happens towards the end of the programme. This is a chance to think back on what you have achieved and to check that you have finished. It should almost be a chance to celebrate a job well done.
Focus on ensuring that all aspects of the student’s CAS Portfolio are complete.
Evidence must all be present to show student has met each of the learning outcomes at least once and that they have worked through the 5 CAS stages (most likely with their CAS project).
The Portfolio should be ready for presentation to the IBO- including 3 interviews and regular reflections with evidence
The CAS project should be present, with reflections showing development through the time of the work.
The advisor should complete the interview notes on ManageBac - highlighting any concerns or outstanding work to the CAS coordinator
