Last Saturday, February 1st, was an exciting time at AISL when we had over 200 students participating in athletics. It all began with the little ones and Saturday soccer. Our coaches and players do an amazing job of teaching and learning the basic skills to provide a strong foundation for soccer.
On the sport court and tennis court, Mr. Ok and the rest of the coaches had 85 of our middle schoolers playing in our intramural championship. It was an outstanding tournament with all players getting plenty of action. The blue team ended up as the champions as they beat the white team. Yellow had an impressive tournament as they came in 3rd.
In the Nest and on the Annex, our high school basketball teams battled against some tough competition.
The girls’ played three incredible matches. In the first two matches, the Eagles came up short against Hope For Girls, and Bobcat Academy. Ellie led the way on the defensive end with many quality rebounds. At point guard, Mica did a nice job distributing the ball to many different players.
In the third match vs. Green Springs Academy, the girls were victorious for the first time this year. They won 13-11 in double overtime thanks to Mariam with the rebound and put back with less than a minute to play. It was an exciting game for the ladies and the nice crowd on hand.
The boys A-Team went 1-2 on the day. They had excellent play from Ken, Ty, and Tiaan. In the first match against the Bobcats, the boys led at half-time but were unable to maintain the lead in the second half. The second match of the day was phenomenal. Even though they lost by 4, the boys came together as a team. In the third game, the boys played our B-Team. It was a well-fought match by both teams. Ron played really well on both ends of the court for the B-Team.
Eighteen of our finest musicians are in Abuja this weekend participating in the WAISAL Band Consortium. Schools from Abuja, Accra, Abidjan, and Dakar are all in Abuja for the three-day event. The link will be sent out Saturday, so you can enjoy the final product from these amazing individuals.
AISL will be hosting Middle School Volleyball next Thursday-Sunday. Players from all over West Africa will descend upon Lagos for this major calendar event. There will be over 200 players participating. The Eagles look to keep their volleyball dominance alive as the players have been practicing diligently over the past two months. If you are in town over the weekend, check out all the action. Middle School WAISAL Volleyball Schedule
