Superintendent's Message

Good afternoon,

It was wonderful to get back into Lagos today. I enjoyed coming into the school this afternoon to say hello to students, staff and parents. Although the trip was successful in a variety of objectives, I missed being here, home, at AISL. As a reminder, I attended a teacher recruitment fair, an AISL alumni reunion, and a conference hosted by the Association for the Advancement of International Education (AAIE). We successfully hired three high-quality teachers. We will share more news of all of our newly hired faculty for the 2020-21 school year soon. At AAIE, I was able to meet several times with incoming Superintendent, Tom Pado, to work on our leadership transition for the upcoming year. I also had the opportunity to meet with the State Department and some important educational consultants to explore future opportunities for AISL. I will share more on these also in the future.

New York City Alumni Reunion

In between our teacher recruitment event and AAIE, I had the pleasure of attending our alumni reunion in New York City. I want to thank the advancement team (Karishma Chugani, Tess Williams and Jessica Bitrus) for their preparations and hosting. Additionally, thank you to Mr. Alfred Ohimain for attending and speaking so eloquently to our alumni about the treasured memories, continued excellence, and future aspirations of our school. He really was the main attraction for our alumni, many who came specifically to see him! Please click here for a more detailed account written by the Advancement team about the alumni reunion.

Coronavirus and Lassa Fever Update

Last week, I communicated about our prevention and response plans for some of the current infectious disease concerns in Nigeria and around the world. At this time, there are no major updates for Coronavirus or Lassa Fever as it pertains to AISL. As per recommendations of the WHO, any person or families returning home from infected countries or regions should self quarantine for 10-14 days.

Nigeria continues to work to prevent the spread of these infectious diseases, and there are still no known or confirmed cases in Lagos despite some false news accounts. What I can say is that it is important to stay calm and pay attention to factual information. Much false information gets circulated today. Unfortunately, these inaccurate rumors can be very harmful. Please continue to be mindful and respectful of all members of our community as we work together to keep our community safe and well.

Reminder: Change of Date for Next Early Dismissal Day

Our next early dismissal day has been changed to March 3rd. (It was previously on the calendar for February 25 which will now be a full regular day). This change has been made to accommodate the change in our service learning consultant’s itinerary who will be using that time with our staff to continue our efforts to implement this important initiative. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Yours in partnership,

Sean Areias, Ed.D.

Interim Superintendent

international day - important form for all parents to fill out:

Dear AISL Parents, our annual International Day Celebration will take place on February 28, 2020. This is a wonderful celebration put together by the entire school community celebrating the 55+ nationalities represented at AISL. During this celebration, we seat kids in the gym according to the country they are representing for that day. If we do not hear from you, then we will assign your child the country that we have on file for them as per their father's passport. Please fill out this form (one per child) letting us know which nationality (please pick one) you would like your child/children to represent that day: Nationality Representation for International Day 2020
