Spanish Beginner focuses on students beginning to develop their ability to communicate in Spanish and their understanding of the culture of Spanish-speaking countries through speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Students will learn to communicate in real-life contexts about topics that are meaningful to them. Rather than isolating grammar in a separate strand, it is integrated into instruction according to the vocabulary and structures needed in the various situations in which students are required to function.
In Spanish Intermediate, students continue to develop their proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
They learn to understand oral and written short messages in Spanish and are able to make simple oral and written presentations on topics studied in class. They continue to focus on communicating about their immediate daily life activities.
In Spanish Advanced, students continue to develop their proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
They are able to interact with other speakers of Spanish. They learn to use more complex structures in Spanish on a variety of topics moving gradually from concrete to more abstract concepts.
French Beginner focuses on students beginning to develop their ability to communicate in French and their understanding of the culture of francophone countries through speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Students will learn to communicate in real-life contexts about topics that are meaningful to them. Rather than isolating grammar in a separate strand, it is integrated into instruction according to the vocabulary and structures needed in the various situations in which students are required to function.
In French_intermediate students continue to develop their reading, listening, speaking and writing proficiency.
They are able to understand oral and written short messages in French and are able to make simple oral and written presentations on topics studied in class. They are able to move gradually to more complex structures and more abstract concepts in speaking and writing.
In French Advanced, students continue to develop their proficiency in reading, listening, speaking and writing.
They are able to interact with other speakers of French. They learn to use more complex structures in French on a variety of topics moving gradually from concrete to more abstract concepts.
There are 3 levels of Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL). Students in these courses are non-native speakers and are enrolled in the appropriate level based on a placement test as well as previous knowledge of Arabic.
AFL Beginner: Students engage in conversational Arabic and begin to write in Arabic.
AFL Intermediate: Students must have either AFL beginner or the equivalent. Students continue to build their proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Arabic. This course includes advanced reading and writing as well as lectures on special topics. At the end of the advanced course, students should be able to communicate with ease and clarity with native speakers.
AFL Advanced: This course is designed specifically for students who are from an Arabic-speaking background, but are exempted from studying Arabic by the Egyptian Ministry of Education. Students in this class are expected to be fluent in spoken and written Arabic. Students are expected to exchange and support opinions on more complex topics in Arabic. They comprehend spoken and written texts from a variety of authentic sources as well as produce compositions containing well-developed ideas on various topics.
