Students are only allowed to take ONE PE class a year.
Physical Education & Health is a mandatory physical education course. Students complete the transition from modified versions of movement forms to more complex applications across all types of physical activities — games, sports, dance, and recreational pursuits. They demonstrate the ability to use basic skills, strategies, and tactics.
Students demonstrate more specialized knowledge in identifying and applying key movement concepts and principles. They assess and develop a personal physical activity program aimed at improving their skill performance. They apply their understanding of personal fitness to lifelong participation in physical activity. Students demonstrate independence of others in making choices, respect all others, avoid conflict, but are able to resolve it appropriately and use elements of fair play and ethical behavior in physical activity settings.
Students demonstrate the ability to plan for and to improve components of fitness and to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of personal fitness.
The Sports, Health and Science curriculum at AISE is designed to give students the opportunity to learn weight training concepts and techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive weight training and cardiorespiratory endurance activities.
Students will participate in different sports such as Swimming, Volleyball, and Football as part of the cardiovascular training. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of weight training, strength training, aerobic training and overall fitness conditioning. The primary focus will include, but not be limited to, the following topics: Human anatomy, injury prevention, physical training and conditioning techniques, nutritional considerations, protective sports equipment, psychology of sports injury/illness, tissue response to injury, exercise physiology, CPR/First Aid, injury assessment and evaluation, environmental concerns, basic taping and bandaging, and drug use/abuse in sports.
Students must pay an additional subsidy for the cost of certification programs to include CPR and First Aid
The Sports, Health and Science-2 course introduces advanced weight training skills, cardiovascular endurance, and muscle endurance. Students will be able to differentiate among various advanced weight training methods (tri-setting, light to heavy, pyramiding, splits, negatives, super overload, blitz, and supersets). Students will design and implement an individualised weight training program based on long and short term goals and fitness assessments results.
Students will be engaged in Sports such as Swimming, Football and Basketball to enhance their fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
The primary focus will include the following topics: Human Anatomy, Sports Nutrition, Weight training and conditioning, Supplements and effects of anabolic steroid use in weight training, sports injuries, and physiology of exercise. At the end of this course, students will be qualified personal trainers.
Students in this class will be reinforcing basic skills taught in PE 09 and building on advanced skills and strategy applications.
The course will also provide opportunities for students to develop physical competence and knowledge related to fitness & sports as well as to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Students will also be introduced to basic anatomy and nutrition throughout the course.
The course emphasis is on active participation, skills development, sportsmanship and teamwork.
The course is designed to provide opportunities for students to further grow their skills and develop techniques, strategies and skills in a variety of team and individual sports.
Maintenance and improvement of personal fitness will also be stressed and students will use previous and newly acquired skills consistently to develop training, fitness & nutrition plans.
Students in this class should have a solid understanding of traditional sports and team play.
