Russia VS Ukraine
How does Russia’s and Ukraine conflict affect the USA
02.28.2022 - Russia and Ukraine have been dealing with conflicts for almost 10 years. Currently, both of the countries are in a state war: The Russo-Ukrainian War that started in 2014. Since the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, there has been political tensions between the countries that used to form it and to defend those countries, the EU and other countries like the USA offered help and support and cooperation.
The last couple of years, this tension has increased with the new revolutionary government of Ukraine and the Russian military build up on the border of Ukraine. In late 2021, Ukraine intended to join NATO, but as Russia didn't want this to happen, they threatened the country in order to “defend the Russian citizens in Ukraine” . Even though several countries' governments have warned the Russian government and president Vladimir Putin with huge consequences, the Russians still invaded Ukraine on the 24th of February 2022.
With all the conflict going on, people have experienced massive concerns towards their countries and their own safety. The main consequences to the US are economic issues but in case of a bigger issue, there’s nothing that can be concluded. Because of Russia being the biggest food supplier in Europe and the principal gas and oil producer, the Russian invasion of Ukraine could potentially lead to inflation in gas, oil and food supplies as well as scarcity in markets.
Taking this into account, the rapid inflation and economic slowdown would eventually cause high costs which results in the increase of interest rates to avoid shortage. Nevertheless, the economic fallout is yet uncertain and all the negative consequences can not be mentioned.
The USA is also worried about the cyberattacks that Russia could respond with to the Western sanctions. The Russian government is called to be experts on the internet area and the US leaders are not sure till to what extent they can enter our systems.
Overall, this European conflict will have a negative repercussion in any way, and the risks that the world is taking to protect themselves and other countries are really big. It is impossible to predict future events that could happen, but for now, all it is possible to do is to wish for the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war as soon as possible. As a student, you won’t be highly affected but as a person, there will be consequences that every citizen, not only from the US but from the world will be affected.
