SEVAI is the middle school service learning program. Sevai means "service" in Tamil.
Each school year students work with some of our local organisations to build mutually beneficial relationships.
Aims of SEVAI at AISC
Service Learning links teaching and learning to an increasingly interconnected world. Assessing genuine needs, developing and implementing sustainable solutions, and reflecting on personal growth and the impact of contributions are key steps of the process.
The aims of SEVAI are to develop:
socially aware, empathetic individuals
collaborative problem solvers who actively choose to embrace real world challenges
reciprocal relationships of mutual respect between AISC and the greater community
Throughout the SEVAI module, students are encouraged to work towards a set of learning targets. This helps to focus their learning and ensures they are working towards the ultimate goals of the SEVAI module.
Students are assessed on their learning for the SEVAI module. Teachers focus on the learning targets and learning habits.
The Service Learning Cycle helps students to focus on the steps they need to follow to work effectively.
Throughout the SEVAI module, students have the opportunity to learn and develop the 10 attributes that make up the AISC Vision for a Learner (VFL).
