The Sports Council of International Schools strives to provide a platform for schools to engage in competitive and recreational sports, promoting physical well-being, teamwork, and leadership skills. We believe in the power of sport to build character and forge lasting friendships across diverse cultures.
To be the premier organization for international school sports, recognized globally for fostering a vibrant community of athletes and educators committed to excellence, integrity, and mutual respect.
The SCIS organization was started in the early 1980s. The founding schools were AIS Vienna, VIS Vienna, BUD Budapest, MIS Munich, ZIS Zurich, and ISP Prague. The organization aimed to produce a tournament structure with a minimum amount of housing and a low budget impact. However, as the organization grew, the desire to increase the quality of the SCIS experience a travel day was added. This ensured that athletes had a full day and a half of competition, and therefore, a safer environment was created. Later, the organization added structure to the awards by introducing gold, silver, and bronze individual medals and team trophies for first, second, and third places.
From 2023/24 the membership of the SCIS group has consisted of six International Schools from across Europe committed to creating community thought sports. Championships now take place over two days with two nights homestay. Alongside medals and trophies for team placings a prestigious Team Spirit and Fairplay award is also presented to the winning team voted on by their fellow competitors.
The current membership consists of the following schools:
