Hurifba is a non-governmental organization committed to defending human rights, protecting the environment, and promoting sustainable development. Based in Cameroon, we operate across Africa and internationally to create a positive impact on vulnerable communities, ecosystems, and endangered species.
We work in various fields, including education, health, the environment, animal and species protection, gender equality, and the fight against modern slavery. We are also dedicated to defending the rights of people with disabilities, developing specific programs for their social and professional inclusion. Through our biodiversity conservation initiatives, we are committed to protecting wildlife and promoting animal welfare, while raising awareness among local communities about the importance of coexisting with nature.
Recognized for our expertise, we hold special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and are accredited with key international conventions, such as the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Our mission is to support vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities, and protect the environment, including endangered species, through sustainable development programs in collaboration with our local and international partners.
HURIFBA was founded in 1999, and on June 7, 2023, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) approved the recommendation of the Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations to grant special consultative status to your organization, Human Rights and Forest Brain Africa (HURIFBA). We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to you.
Consultative status enables an organization to participate in the work of ECOSOC and its subsidiary bodies, the Human Rights Council, certain sessions of the General Assembly, and other intergovernmental bodies. It also provides the opportunity for the organization to establish working relationships with the UN Secretariat. For further information on meetings and sessions of bodies open to NGOs with consultative status, please refer to our brochure, "Working with ECOSOC: A Guide for NGOs Seeking Consultative Status."
In order to fully understand the new relationship between your organization and ECOSOC, we would like to highlight some important details regarding the rights granted by consultative status, as well as the obligations that must be met as part of this relationship. We kindly encourage you to familiarize yourself with these guidelines.
At Hurifba, our actions are guided by strong values that reflect our commitment to the communities we serve. These values are at the heart of everything we do, enabling us to stay true to our mission of promoting human rights and sustainable development.
