Masego Mothapo
MSc Student & AS 2024 Alumni University of Venda
Masego is a Physics graduate from the University of Venda in Limpopo Province, holding a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Chemistry, and an Honours degree in Nuclear Physics with a specialization in Radiobiology. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Nuclear Physics, with a particular interest in radiation protection, space radiation, and its biomedical implications. During her Honours studies, Masego conducted research on the effects of space radiation on the immune system of astronauts, exploring the intersection of physics and biology. The research not only expanded my understanding of space environments and ionizing radiation but also sparked a lasting interest in the biological consequences of radiation exposure, particularly in aerospace and medical contexts.
She currently serves as a laboratory demonstrator for first-year students in the Department of Physics. This role has provided me with valuable experience in academic instruction and mentorship, while also developing essential skills in leadership, teamwork, and scientific communication. It has prepared me for future roles in both academia and research-intensive environments.
