I know it has been a while but there are a lot of very exciting updates to share with you.
The scholarship application for the Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation is live online now. The website is: www.sw iowa educational foundation.org. Deadline for the application is March 15, 2024.Students will need to set up a Foundant account which will enable them to apply and also submit their essay.
The Iowa Western Foundation Scholarship application for Fall 2024/Spring 2025 is OPEN!!! Every student who plans to attend IWCC next fall can apply for scholarships here: Foundation Scholarship Application . Before students can access the scholarship application, they must have applied to Iowa Western, been accepted and issued their 7-digit student ID. New users to the scholarship site linked above will first need to scroll to “Create Account” at the bottom of the page, enter their 7-digit student ID and follow the prompts to create their account. I encourage you to apply by the February 1, 2024 priority deadline to take full advantage of priority awards and to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship!
Juniors, on Thursday, Feb. 1st we will be giving a free ACT practice test in the morning. We will start promptly at 8:30 and should be done by noon. This will give you a feel for the test and a baseline score before test prep starts. Once I have a number, I will let you know where the testing will take place. Starting Feb. 5th, we will be offering ACT Test Prep through OnToCollege (John Baylor). Sessions are 20 minutes long, and will be offered either before school or during seminar. They can also be done independently if need be. Once I know who is interested, we will work out the best time to work together. I know most colleges are not requiring the ACT for admission, but it can be helpful with scholarship consideration. Our test preparation will be gearing up for the April 13th ACT. You can sign up for that test at www.actstudent.org. You will have to pay to take the test, but we will cover the cost of the test prep. There is a sign-up sheet outside my office. Please write down your name, and then if you would like to do the practice test, the test prep, or both. Let me know what questions you have.
Jamie Haden from Iowa Central Community College will be here on Wednesday, 2/14 during seminar to meet with any interested students. There will be a sign up sheet that week on Dr. H's office door if you are interested in meeting with her.
I am currently completing credit checks now that 1st semester grades have posted, and will be distributing these to students in the coming weeks. This week, we also started "Future Fridays" during seminar. Students will be working on initial steps to develop a resume.
