A Level Edexcel 9ETO
This A Level is an ideal choice for anyone who loves to think, read, discuss and explore complex ideas about the big questions affecting human existence.
English students are taught to think analytically, consider different interpretations and listen and respond to one another during discussions in class. You will cover a range of themes, from the portrayal of submissive and subversive women, the nature of human consciousness, the breakdown of the human psyche, to the construct of dystopian and utopian societies.
You will also be taught how to write coherently and critically. Perhaps more importantly, you learn to empathise, engage and see the world through the eyes of others.
English Literature is a highly respected A Level that can be instrumental in helping students gain university places in a variety of subjects, including English.
You will need grade 6 or higher in both GCSE English Language and English Literature to take this course.
You will be required to purchase any texts which you wish to annotate (Approx. £45 in total)

Component 1: Drama
Students study one Shakespeare play and one other drama text from either tragedy or comedy.
Component 2: Prose
A study of two prose texts from a chosen theme. At least one of the texts must be pre-1900.
Component 3: Poetry and unseen
Students prepare for a question on an unseen text and study a range of poetry from a literary period.
Coursework
Students write one extended comparative essay exploring two texts. This is a great opportunity to study a text of your own choosing.
