Some of our current Year 12 students give their accounts of the first couple of months...
Denuha: There is a wide range of subjects to choose from at AHS which enables us to have a variety of options for the future. The support given by the teachers is amazing and they understand the change from KS4 to KS5 and help you out. The major change from Year 11 to Sixth Form is having fewer subjects to study but a lot more frequently. Also study periods are a new concept which enables us to be organised and use the time allocated efficiently to do homework.
Florence: Sixth Form so far has been very challenging and intense but very exciting. My schedule has never been busier but I'm glad that I am able to stay occupied whilst enjoying my time at school everyday. Each day is different and new; each day you face new challenges which have been stretching me and helping me grow into the adult I will become.
Adaobi: The teaching at Aylesbury High is of a very high standard and the time, care and extra help given to students is extremely beneficial. The resources at the school enable you to take your learning further beyond the classroom.
Amy: As a new pupil in the AHS Sixth Form, I found the school environment, students and staff extremely welcoming. The subjects are challenging but very interesting, and the independence encouraged in the Sixth Form allows you to take control of your learning alongside the great support from teachers. Over the first six weeks, I’ve particularly found the huge range of extracurricular and House activities, run by both students and teachers, a fantastic opportunity to get involved in the school community and to meet new people.
Helen: I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at AHS as a Sixth Form student so far. It is a very different experience to Key Stage 4 as you are given more opportunities to work independently, yet still have a network of support available when needed. There are so many different opportunities available to Sixth Form students, ranging from House Captains and Subject Ambassadors to leading clubs and tutoring younger students. Sixth Form at AHS offers exciting new ways to learn about subjects in a friendly and welcoming environment.
Maddy: I have been at the school since the beginning of Year 7 but despite that, Sixth Form felt like a new start. The study periods suddenly gave us a feeling of freedom and the relationship between teachers and students changed to be more relaxed. Being in Year 12 means we have the opportunity to run the House events, I have been one of the Dance Captains and it has been a fantastic opportunity to take a leadership role. I have really enjoyed the start of Year 12 and I look forward to the rest of the year.
Anna: Since starting Sixth Form, I have been looking forward to every lesson. The study periods have allowed me to enjoy AHS life a lot more, as I use them efficiently so I get lots of free time as well. During a study period you have the option to either go to the library for quiet study, Sixth Form Study Centre where you can chat quietly among friends, or the canteen where you can have discussions in a group and help each other out. Best of all, the teachers' enthusiasm to help their students if they don't understand is incredible! Even out of lessons they are always willing to help. Their keenness for their students to get better at their subject has really encouraged me to do my work to the best of my ability and because of their help I have been able to understand and improve in any areas of the course that I may be struggling.
