Q: HOW WILL I KNOW THAT I AM INVITED?

A: Candidates for membership will receive an invitation to complete a candidate form via an email to their school email address.

 

Q: DOES AN INVITATION MEAN I WILL BE A MEMBER?

A: No. An invitation does not mean automatic membership, and there is no right to membership, it is a privilege bestowed upon a student by the faculty of the school. Your candidate form will be reviewed by a council of faculty members and students who meet the organization’s pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character will be admitted.

 

Q: IS THERE A QUOTA OR CUTOFF FOR NHS CLASS SIZES?

A: Per the NASSP – No. Quotas or percentages may not be set to limit membership or chapter size.

 

Q: WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR GETTING INTO NHS?

A: National Honor Society is a nationally acclaimed society which only accepts the most qualified individuals. In order to qualify, one must demonstrate each of the four pillars listed above. 

 

Q: WHEN AND HOW WILL I FIND OUT THAT I GOT IN?

A: New members will be notified of their acceptance in the late December. At this time they will receive information on the induction ceremony that is held in March. Following induction, they are full members of NHS and can start participating in NHS sponsored projects.

 

Q: WHEN DO I PAY MY DUES? HOW MUCH ARE DUES?

A: Member dues are collected in February. Your membership dues are a one time $40 payment and are used to cover induction materials, NASSP affiliation fees. More information will come in January. 

 

Q: WHAT IF I AM NOT ACCEPTED INTO NHS?

A: If you are not accepted into NHS, it is okay. In the week following your non-acceptance decision, you will have an opportunity to appeal your decision. The instructions for the appeal process will be sent to you. If you choose not to appeal your non-acceptance decision or your status does not change following your appeal, there will be future opportunities to join NHS. Please note that per the NASSP – the national office staff and NASSP have no authority to review or overturn the judgment of the faculty council regarding the selection of individual members to local chapters.

 Q: Leadership Piliar– does it have to be AHHS for the appointed/elected position? Just says in your high school career 


A: As long as it is in your high school career (9th– now) it can be outside of AH, just be sure to fill out all the information including signature and phone number on the application. 


Q: If in a sport/organization does this current school year count as a point. I.e soccer hasn’t started yet this school year. 

1pt for Freshman year 

1pt for Sophomore year 

1pt for current year (if you are already committed and can get a signature that you apart of the sport/organization)


A: yes 1pt for current year will count as long as you are already committed and on the team. Be sure to get the signatures from your coach to show evidence that you are on the team currently.  


Q: Service hours clarification 


A: Add up section C + D on the application to total 10pts. 


Q: Rocketry– does this count as organization for points? 


A:  1pt/yr     *excludes 9th grade year
