about raketa

Raketa Thomas has been an educator for fifteen years and holds an undergraduate degree from Pomona College and a graduate degree from the University of San Diego. Although born and raised in West Africa, most of Raketa Thomas’s educational journey developed in California where she taught Mathematics, Science and French, supported educational research endeavors or developed curriculum. To this day, Thomas’s passion remains in education research/data analysis for equity. She has a passion for education, for finding patterns and identifying solutions.

Raketa fervently believes that education can revolutionize society. To Raketa, education gives learners lifetime tools. Having the tools to create an equitable process by which minority women can be better represented in STEM fields is vastly different from simply being aware of it and feeling trapped by the confines of one's ethnicity and gender. Education develops power. The individual that can read, analyze and understand the reading is capable of critically thinking through or calculating what needs to be done in order to regain ownership of his or her own life, business or person. Regardless of our individual backgrounds and experiences, we grow and we develop to become part of the sum total of our society. Assuming that education is indeed the development of power, ideals and leads to self-actualization, then by extension a good education can develop in us positive ideals that would guide society toward the betterment of all.

Raketa has a zeal for supporting growth that leads to success for all learners and as such performs her duties as an educator and educational entrepreneur with the goal to positively influence society.
