Hello! My name is Kelly Davis, and I am honored to join the counseling team at Canyon View. I am the Lead School Counselor and I will be working with Jags26 (Last Names Beginning With P-Z).
I am from New York and I have lived in California and Maine. I have lived in Maine since 1998 and just moved to Arizona. I graduated from California State University Dominquez Hills with a Bachelors in Psychology. I continued my education and earned my Masters in Criminal Justice from Andrew Jackson University in Alabama and a Post Master’s Certificate in School Counseling from Gwynedd Mercy University in Pennsylvania.
I bring with me over 30 years of experience working with children/students inside and outside the school setting. I worked as a Crisis Worker and a Human Services Caseworker and Supervisor for the State of Maine, Child and Family Services. Then I became the Director of Guidance at a school in Van Buren, Maine and most recently as the Student Services Coordinator at a CTE Center in Frenchville, Maine.
As a school counselor my goal is to build relationships with students, support them, and advocate for all their needs, not just educational needs. I believe in encouraging the entire person which is why I have also coached basketball and soccer in my past. I coached both middle school boys’ soccer and basketball for six years. Teaching students/children foundation skills that will follow them for life, helping them understand that someone cares about them, and ensuring they have a successful high school career and beyond.
I moved to Arizona to be closer to my son, who will be attending the University of Arizona in the Fall. I am married to Rodney, I have four step-children, a grandson and a granddaughter on the way, and a mini bullie named Whiskey. I am so excited to join Canyon View High School and start this next chapter of my life.
Hello! My name is Lisa Callicoat and I'm so excited to start my fourth year with the School Counseling team at Canyon View High School. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Psychology and continued on to earn my Master of Science in Community Counseling. My background includes Substance Abuse Counseling and Health Education. I have worked in inpatient, outpatient, and prevention, primarily with adolescents and college-aged individuals. I began my School Counseling career in Bagdad, Arizona. My goal as a school counselor is to be an advocate for all students in order to assist them in achieving their own academic, social-emotional, and post-secondary success.
I am originally from the suburbs of Chicago and for the past 13 years, I have lived throughout Arizona in different mining communities with my family. I enjoy traveling and exploring wildness and capturing it through painting, drawing, and photography.
Hello! My name is Danielle Sanders and I'm so excited to be your Class of 2025 School Counselor! I graduated from Ottawa University earning a Bachelor's in Psychology and earned my Masters of Education in Special Education Cross Category from Grand Canyon University and my Masters of School Counseling from American Public University. I taught as a Self-Contained teacher for 9 years and served as a Co-Teacher in Freshman English for 1 year. I began my school counseling career at Copper Trails Elementary in Avondale. I am very excited to enter into this Senior year with the Class of 2025! My goal as a School Counselor is to build relationships with all students and assist them with reaching their goals.
I was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana but have lived in Arizona since I was 4 years old. I have always lived in the West Valley and graduated from Westview High School. When I'm not on campus you can find me at a basketball game supporting my boys, or at a dance competition supporting my daughter, basically spending time with my family in general or reading a good book!
Hi! My name is Sholanda L. Smith. I graduated from Spelman College (Psychology) and completed Master degrees, at Grand Canyon University (Special Education) and Ottawa University (School Counseling). I began my teaching career, in the Cartwright district, at Marc T. Atkinson Middle School. I also taught at Desert Sands Middle School, in the Cartwright district. Prior to coming to Canyon View High School, I taught at Valley Vista High School, in the Dysart district. I am excited to transition from the classroom, after 9 years of teaching, into School Counseling, so that I can be a part of a global impact. I am beyond blessed to be able to begin my school counseling career, at Canyon View High School (Go Jags!)!
I am from the Peach State (Georgia), by way of Arkansas (the Natural State). I love living in Arizona. I spend time with my husband and children, visit local libraries (my first job was in a library!), museums, and historical sites, as well as go to the gym and hike. I also very much enjoy traveling, beaches, good food, and reading. My goal, as a school counselor, is to empower students to design an individualized journey that addresses their socio-emotional and academic development, as well as ensure that every student receives comprehensive and personalized strategies that enable them to be college and career ready. I would say that my counseling theoretical orientation would include an integration of client-centered and a solution-focused therapy; a humanistic perspective, while ensuring to incorporate a holistic approach.
"It's a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together."
Hello! My name is Latoya Bernard and I am very excited to be the Canyon View Counselor for Jags26 (Last Names Beginning with A-0). I earned both my undergraduate (Human Services) and graduate (School Counseling) degrees from Ottawa University here in Arizona. I have over 10 years of experience in education, but I have worked with youth of all ages, in various capacities from a very young age. My first role in education was a paraprofessional, for a special education self-contained high school classroom, in the Glendale district. My most recent role was in the J.O. Combs District, as a School Counselor. I have a passion for helping people and I believe in providing excellent customer service to our students, parents, community, and collaborators. My goal is to motivate my students. I will be your biggest cheerleader, in your corner, supporting and guiding you every step of the way.
I am a native of Arizona and appreciate calling this beautiful state my home. While I have lived all over the valley, I enjoy the West Valley the best. In my free time, I enjoy being with my family, traveling, and self-care. Go Jags!!
