Making Our Tool in the iWonder Lab

For the 4th grade Regions Fair, each group is making a tool that will be helpful for the people of the region that they are learning about. We spent time in the iWonder Lab to create a prototype of their ideas. Each group came up with a problem from their region that they wanted to help solve. The Pacific West group is along the Pacific Ocean and there is a lot of plastic trash which is dangerous for fish and sea life. The girls want to help clean this section of the ocean with their tool as well as help fishermen decide which fish are healthy and safe to eat with an inventive app. The Mountain West group is trying to combat graffiti with a robotic car equipped with a camera, an alarm, and anti-graffiti spray. The Mid-Atlantic group would like to help the homeless with a robotic container that gives out needed supplies. The South West group learned that their region suffers from drought. They created a survival kit along with an app that connects to a house's water supply to measure how much water is used during a drought. There are rewards for using less than your allotted amount. GREAT JOB GIRLS!

Pre-K Play! Fourth Grade Support

Today we watched the Pre-K play. The fourth graders were so impressed with the performance that they wrote individual thoughtful letters to the Pre-K students to show their support, appreciation, and respect. We delivered the letters and read them to the girls who were so happy that their fourth grade friends were proud of them. The fourth graders said that it felt so wonderful to be kind in that way. The video in this section has photos of our girls presenting the letters to the Pre-K students and the photos is of the girls from the performance.

Women In Wax 2018

These girls are AMAZING and RESILIENT! They started this project learning about biographies. They selected their own biography and learned how to takes notes in an organized way. They used their notes to write a monologue as if they were the notable woman they were going to portray. After a snow day and a rescheduled date, on the day of the Women In Wax Museum, the girls dressed as their notable woman. The girls chose a pose that was a reflection of their woman and acted like a wax statue until a visitor dropped a penny in the cup at their feet and then they "came to life." The girls performed for the whole lower school, as well as supporters from the middle and upper schools, teachers and staff. We then were surprised to learn that school would be closing early due to an impending ice storm and we had to reschedule the parents' presentation AGAIN. We then had the Women in Wax "Finale" on Wednesday, January 10th for parents. We are all so proud of these amazing girls and their ability to go with the flow, AND appreciate the understanding and flexibility of the parents as well. I hope these videos bring a smile to your face.
