The eighth grade art curriculum focuses on key elements and principles of design necessary to prepare for the next level of high school art courses. We learn about a variety of artists in conjunction with our units on balance, line, color theory, dimension, perspective and mood. Here are a few examples of our current artist units:
Within each of these units we discuss the aesthetics of art, the historic context in which it was created and the visual components of each piece.
Eighth graders are given freedom to create and explore within a structured assignment. All units are graded with a rubric. In addition to creating art, these emerging artists also learn how to talk about art and offer constructive criticism and help to peers.
