Middle School Art Grades 7-8

At the Avon Grove Charter School all middle school students in grades 7 and 8 take art for half of the year. Art is on a letter day cycle and is offered twice in an eight day rotation. Sonya Bannon is the Middle School art teacher. She has been with AGCS for more then ten years and has taught art for over 20 years. Mrs. Bannon loves learning about art and inspiring young artists to share her passion. You can contact Mrs. Bannon anytime at sbannon@agcharter.org.

In addition to regularly scheduled art classes, Mrs. Bannon also offers three courses during wolf pack hour club period at the end of the day. These courses are middle school yearbook design, painting, and artist exploration. To discover more about the middle school art program, please visit the individual grade level pages.

Middle School Yearbook is a year long commitment. This club teaches participants how to photograph daily activities, and create a ladder design for a yearbook. Students will also use their photos and creativity online to design this years book. All yearbooks are completed in the spring and arrive in late May.

Wolf Pack Hour Painting offers 7th and 8th graders a chance to learn about and explore a variety of painting styles. Using acrylics and watercolors, students will try different techniques such as wet on wet, dry brush, glazing, and tonal mixing. They will learn about color theory and mixing while creating masterpieces. This course is offered for both half year and full year.

Artists Exploration is a half year or full year course devoted to the inspiration of artists. Each class we learn about the life and style of a famous artist and why his or her art is relevant. After learning about these artists we complete a project inspired by that artist.
