If you are lost and need to ask for directions, ask someone in uniform (police officer or train station staff). You can also go to a Koban.
If you can’t find someone in uniform, go into a shop that looks like it has been in business in the area for a long time (greengrocer, convenience store, etc.) and ask for help. People in such shops will know the area well.
Whenever you lose or find an item, report it to the nearest Koban or police station (Keisatsusho). If it happens on a train or in a station, report it to station staff as soon as possible. You will be notified if your lost item is found. In Japan, lost articles are often returned.
In Japan, vehicles drive on the left side, including bicycles, and people walk on the right side of the road.
