Early Years Intent

"All children who enter our EYFS will develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally whilst embedding a positive, confident attitude to school.  Developing oracy and thinking skills enabling children to reach their full potential."

Early Years at Percy

At Percy we believe in all children receiving the best possible start to their education by having a curriculum and provision which allows children to develop physically, verbally, cognitively and emotionally whilst embedding a positive, confident attitude to school.

Our curriculum is designed with the intent to develop oracy and thinking skills enabling our children to become articulate learners.  It has an emphasis on vocabulary and memorable experiences to support and improve communication skills.  We take pride in our environment, indoors and outdoors, ensuring it is a focussed, stimulating and creative space for children to practise and explore skills across the curriculum.  High quality interactions with children are paramount so to model and expand upon children's language.

Learning opportunites are carefully planned with a focus on knowledge and skills, delivered through whole class direct teaching, small focussed groups and one to one sessions.  We value our partnership with parents, supporting them in order for them to know how best to support their child.

Our intent is for all children to achieve their full potential, laying the foundations for success in KS1 and their future in education.

Early Years Curriculum

The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their development.

They will be learning new skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

•         Communication and language;

•         Physical development;

•         Personal, social and emotional development;

•         Literacy;

•         Mathematics;

•         Understanding the world; and

•         Expressive arts and design.

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities which are suited to your individual unique needs.  We also follow the principles set out in the document ‘Birth to Five Matters’ which states that significant learning is dependent on each child having opportunities to thrive and develop positive relationships within an enabling environment.
