Monday 5th December
On the first day we welcomed our guests at school. We gave them a guided tour into the school including bouldering. After that we did a town quiz. On our tour through Baden-Baden we saw and heard about the cobble stones that give information about the Jewish victims that had lived in the houses nearby.
Tuesday 6th December
The students presented their ideas of the commemoration images.
Later we enjoyed some time together with sports and dance.
In the evening students, parents and teachers gathered for the international Nikolaus buffet, where traditional food was served.
Wednesday 7th December
In Karlsruhe we walked through the Christmas Market and also visited the ZKM, a modern museum for media and design.
Thursday 8th December
We visited the Unimog Museum in Gaggenau, which belongs to Mercedes Benz. We even got to ride in one.
To finish up the week in Gaggenau we made some bookmarks and sang some christmas carols before we sent our guests back home.
We chose candles because candles are lit to establish a link with the divine, opening a passage between the earthly and the invisible world. The candle is indeed the bearer of light and its flame shines, in this case illuminating our mind and memory so that we do not forget. There are 13 flames, one for each victim.
The lemma 'lest we forget' is a phrase commonly used in war memorials and commemorative occasions in English-speaking countries, and we wanted to include it because it relates to the commemoration of war victims.
