Through the job experience portion of the Senior Project, students will be able to develop and grow from experiences as well as opportunities that will help prepare them for the career field after high school. The job experience portion of the Senior Project will cover the following topics:
Building resumes
Asking for professional letters of recommendation (3 letters required)
Performing job shadows in 3 different careers
A reflective essay for each job shadow that covers their experience at each job
Students are encouraged to investigate careers they genuinely want to pursue or learn more about. Our advisors and coordinators are here to help recommend different job experiences or help with contacting those individuals if the student is struggling to do so on their own.
Job Shadow Requirements
Careers/job shadows must be approved by the Senior Project Coordinator or advisor
Document 12 hours in 3 different jobs for the student's main career choice
Document 2 hours in secondary career #1
Document 2 hours in secondary career #2
A qualified mentor is one who is not a recent graduate (Within 5 years), not a parent, stepparent, or close family member, or anyone within extended family.
A qualified job shadow is a practicing professional in an area where you can intern, job shadow, or volunteer.
The role of the mentor is to provide expertise in a job shadow, answer any questions, share pros/cons of the field, education required, etc.

Job Shadow Requirements (Honors)
Total of 20 hours minimum of job shadowing
16 hours in the main career
2 hours in secondary career #1
2 hours in secondary career #2
All other requirements are the same
Essay Requirements
A reflective essay is required for each of the student's completed job shadows. This essay serves as a thoughtful reflection of the experience.
The essay is required to be:
Double-spaced, typed
Times New Roman font
1-2 pages in length

How have you grown from these job shadows? What have you learned that surprised you? Disappointed you?
If you could change anything about these job experiences, what would it be?
What were your favorite/least favorite parts of the experience?
What have you learned about yourself?
What challenges did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
What are your overall thoughts of the entire experience, and do you have advice for others considering those fields?
