Having completed four full years as an Associate Professor in the Department of Health and Sport Sciences at Adelphi University, I feel that I have demonstrated outstanding accomplishment as a teacher with continued excellent scholarship and service. I am pleased to know that my teaching has continued to result in strong student evaluations as well as several positive peer evaluations. In addition, I have continued to build upon my research agenda and am actively involved in the advancement of research within the Exercise Science program. Since 2019, I have had seven papers accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals and currently have one more paper that is under review and an additional paper that is in the final stages of manuscript preparation. Additionally, since gaining the rank of Associate Professor, I have taken part in seventeen presentations at national-level conferences. I look forward to continuing to develop my line of research with my colleagues from the Exercise Science program, our students, as well as with colleagues from other institutions both locally and across the country, as I continue to progress in my career.
Similarly, since gaining tenure in 2019, I have put forth a lot of effort in service of the university and its students. At the university level, I served in the Faculty Senate from 2015 to 2023, and am a member of the CSTEP Advisory Board. Additionally, since gaining tenure in 2019, I have participated in several service endeavors within the College of Education and Health Sciences, including chairing the recent CSD Chair Search Committee which has resulted in a successful hire. At the departmental level, I have been a member of the Department of Health and Sport Sciences' Unit Peer Review Committee since 2019 and have chaired the committee since 2022. Similarly, since 2021, I have also provided Physical Therapy services to the Dance majors on campus. Additionally, I dedicate a significant amount of time and effort each semester (as well as in between semesters) to providing individualized advisement to dozens of Exercise Science undergraduate students. Since gaining tenure in 2019, I have averaged approximately 55 advisees per semester. I am proud to say that since I arrived at Adelphi in 2013, our undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science programs have had well over one hundred students accepted into highly competitive graduate-level Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Occupational Therapy programs locally and around the country. My external service includes working with the New York Institute of Technology’s Doctoral Physical Therapy program as a member of their Advisory Board as well as serving as a Lab Instructor in their Foundations of Orthopedics course, in addition to providing guest lectures for the Academy of Applied Personal Training Education and the Starting Strength Coaches Association. I have managed to do all of this while maintaining my clinical practice outside of Adelphi in a part-time capacity where I work with patients of all ages with a variety of orthopedic and neurologic dysfunctions.
This self-evaluation will outline in greater detail my achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service since gaining tenure in 2019, as well as my personal and professional goals that I hope to attain as I look forward to the coming academic years.
