What if I can’t make all of the practices?
Practice Attendance and Participation
Attendance at practice is mandatory, unless otherwise stated on the practice schedule as optional or with prior permission by the coach. If a swimmer in unexcused from any practice, the coach reserves the right to sit the swimmer at the next meet.
Everyone is busy. Swimming demands your attention as well. Excusing meets and practices for other extra-curricular activities will be tolerated to a point and excused on an individual basis. Swimming should not be the only activity to suffer.
· You will not be excused for more than one meet per season for another school sponsored activity.
· Your ability to letter and participate in meets and on relays will be in jeopardy if you miss practice or leave early/arrive late for practice.
· You have the schedule for the next few months—schedule appointments (dentist, doctor, etc.) around practice times, NOT during. If a swimmer falls ill, considerations will be made.
· Check the website for any changes, announcements, directions to pools, and other information.
Does my athlete need a physical?
Yes. If you do not have the proper forms filled out and a physical on file, swimmers cannot participate in practice and the absences will count against lettering and participation. A current physical must be turned in to our athletic secretary. If a swimmer’s physical expires during the season, a new physical and form must be completed and turned in to the office before the athlete can return to practice. Please schedule your appointments early.
How much does it cost?
Athletic Fee $150
Team Meet Suit Usually around $50
Other costs include goggles, practice suit, caps (the team will provide caps)
The team usually orders shirts, sweats, etc. These items are all optional.
What about transportation?
Swimmers must provide their own transportation to the VMAC for all practices and to meets on the weekends.
Home meets: Swimmers must provide transportation to home meets and arrive at the VMAC by 2:45 to help prepare for the meet.
Away meets: Listen for announcements at practice or on the intercom for times and places to meet the bus. Swimmers are expected to travel to and from the pool with the team when transportation is available. If a swimmer must travel home by transportation not provided by District 12, the swimmer must give the coach a written note from the parent asking permission. If receiving a ride home, a swimmer or diver will only be allowed to travel with their parent or legal guardian. Riding the bus builds camaraderie. There will be announcements and meet awards on the bus returning home.
What is a "dry land" workout?
Swimmers should have workout clothes with them, including running shoes, shorts or sweats, t-shirt. We may lift weights, run, push-ups and sit-ups, and other conditioning activities.
