We brought on Gurbachan as a consultant in Lean Manufacturing, while GM Holden was going through a stage of significant increase in its vehicle build schedules, which impacted on manufacturing capacity of many part suppliers. Gurbachan mentored and coached the senior management of large number of component manufacturers across Australia, including plastics, metal fabrication, rubber etc supplying parts to GM Holden. He demonstrated his excellent knowledge of lean manufacturing principles within a very short period of time, accurately identifying process issues, bottlenecks and identifying corrective actions to overcome them, while working within incredibly tight project deadlines. His capacity analysis studies at various suppliers were invaluable to us to be able to develop sound strategies to manage our complex supply chain effectively under highly uncertain circumstances and minimizing risks of plant stoppages costing GM Holden ~$300K per hour.

Gurbachan had to work at the supplier organizations with people from senior management to shop floor operators under highly challenging conditions. He conducted problem solving workshops, implemented visual management systems and many other lean principles across a variety of supplier operations. He became a trusted advisor for both GM Holden and suppliers, achieving buy-in from all levels, resulting in successful implementation of supplier improvement plans.
