AP Studio

The Visual Arts offer 2 different AP Studio Courses- 2D or Drawing (click to read syllabus) which are year long classes (A/B schedule)

The main difference between the two is that 2-D design encompasses a wide range of two-dimensional media or processes, including, but not limited to illustration, painting, printmaking, collage, photography, digital media, etc. AP Drawing (does have some variety in materials including paint) but mainly focuses on exploring and fine tuning drawing techniques.

Prerequisite for either is to successfully complete the Art III Honors class

Reasons to take AP Studio Art

Obvious Reasons

• The course is aligned with both the National Art Standards and State Standards

• It challenges highly motivated high school students to perform at the college level and they may receive placement and/or credit in college (Check individual schools for qualifying scores)

• The student creates a sophisticated body of work (portfolio) which helps students stand out in the college admission process by demonstrating: commitment to academic excellence, study habits necessary for rigorous course work and advanced creative problem solving skills
