Business Education Teacher, Asheville High School
Although I have deep family roots in WNC, I was born and raised in Concord, NC. This year marks my 25th year with ACS - a career where I began as a lateral entry media production teacher in the Arts dept, after spending a few years working in television production and higher ed. Teaching at AHS allowed me to pursue a passion for helping students create their own media as well as extending them beyond the classroom as crew for the Cougar Sports Network and other ACS events. After a few years my program was moved to CTE and I was asked to serve on the NCDPI advisory team to create the Digital Media CTE program area. This move greatly enhanced my program’s ability to keep up with industry standards and further enhanced my interest in supporting students through practical, relevant experiences. Since leaving the classroom I’ve served as middle school CDC, and high school CDC/SPC, where I continue to support students in pursuing meaningful experiences around their career goals. I enjoy traveling with my family and exploring the many mountain bike trails in the area. Fun Fact: I was once a world champion - as a member of the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps when I was 18 years old.
