Service Learning Graduation Requirement

ACS is committed to instilling a sense of community and responsibility to others through authentic learning experiences. Service at ACS means learning about ourselves, our communities, and the greater world by voluntarily supporting events and issues through research, advocacy, indirect, and direct action.


All students are required to complete at least 3 service credits each year. One credit is a completed service experience with evidence and a reflection posted in the online portfolio, Managebac. All students must complete each type of service at least once during their time in high school.

Types of Service

Direct: Personally working with the community or cause being supported.

Indirect: Actions in support of a community in need without seeing the recipients or visiting a service site.

Advocacy: Speaking on behalf of a group or cause in need to inspire further action.

Research: Gathering and analyzing information to report and raise awareness.


Requirements

  • A minimum of 3 service credits per year

  • A reflection with evidence for each service credit submitted to Managebac

  • All 4 types of service (Direct, Indirect, Advocacy, Research) must be completed at least once during Grades 9 to 12

  • Students may choose which types of service activities to complete each year.

  • Evidence can be photos of the experience, a certificate of completion, notes, a screenshot of a virtual event, etc.


Reflections

  • Must respond to a minimum of 3 questions from this google doc. Ensure you choose one prompt from each category.

  • Must include evidence of completed service work by attaching documents, photos, video, etc.

  • May be written or video/audio recordings.
