This course is designed to explore Earth and its systems, focusing on ecosystems, planet Earth, weather, and climate.
The key concepts include Earth's systems and processes, geological change over time, natural hazards; atmospheric processes, weather, and climate; and ecosystem interactions, energy flow and matter cycling, natural resources, and human impacts on environmental systems.
The learning process is organized around scientific phenomena and real-world problems. Students develop scientific understanding by engaging in practices such as asking questions, analyzing and interpreting data, developing models, constructing explanations, and using evidence to support claims. The science curriculum aligns with the performance expectations of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the units incorporate Disciplinary Core Ideas, Science and Engineering Practices, and Crosscutting Concepts.
