MS1207 EFL
EFL is a two-year rotational program at ACS, which provides non-native, beginner to intermediate level students with a strong comprehensive foundation in the English language and content study. Emphasis is placed in completing the fundamentals in grammar, building vocabulary, and further enhancing reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
EFL 1 provides beginner level English language students with a strong comprehensive foundation in the English language and content study.
The program is composed of five separate and mandatory blocks covering two periods of Language Development and one period respectively of Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
Emphasis is placed on completing the fundamentals in grammar and vocabulary through reading, writing, listening and speaking. Thematically based units to be covered include: Family, Clothes, and Appearances, Environment and Technology, Professions and the Future World.
Reading assignments include short stories, as well as newspaper and magazine articles appropriate for grade level. Oral and written presentations are introduced to enhance productive skills.
There is further immersion into Language Arts (through leveled reading and writing development), Science (through a glossary, reading, research, and writing), and Social Studies with grade level content (through a glossary and leveled readings). The content for the disciplines of Social Studies and Science in year 1 is aligned with a portion of the content presented in grade 6 and 7.

The WIDA standardized test is administered twice a year (January and May) to document the English Language Learners’ growth, confirm their level, and ensure that they have mastered the linguistic competence required to be mainstreamed and succeed in academics, without support from ESL classes.
EFL 2
EFL 2 provides low intermediate level English language students with a strong comprehensive foundation in the English language and content study.
The program is composed of five separate and mandatory blocks covering two periods of Language Development and one period respectively of Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
Emphasis is placed on building on more academic grammar and vocabulary skills through reading, writing, listening and speaking. Thematically based units to be covered include: Art, Wellbeing, Digital Citizenship, Life and Living on the planet, and Cuisine.
Reading assignments include short stories, as well as, appropriate for grade level, newspaper and magazine articles. Oral and written presentations are introduced to enhance productive skills.
There is further immersion into Language Arts (through leveled reading and writing development), Science (through a glossary, reading, research, and writing), and Social Studies with grade level content (through a glossary and leveled readings).
