How are the Books Organized?
Like most libraries, our Library uses the Dewey Decimal to categorize and shelve books.
We have a Fiction section (F), a Graphic Novel section (GRA) , and a Non-fiction section (###) in our library.
Fiction (such as The Lord of the Rings) are organized by the authors last name
Graphic Novels (Comic books) are organized by Title
Non-Fiction is organized by subject:
000-099 = General encyclopedias and Computers
100-199 = Philosophy and Psychology
200-289= Religion
300-399 = Social Sciences
400-499 = Languages
500-599 = Sciences
600-699 = Applied Sciences
700-799 = Arts and Recreation
800-899 = Literature
900-999 = Geography and History
Locating a Book
1. Search Library Catalog (Destiny).
Enter your keyword in the search bar.
In this example, I have entered the search term "Loner."
2. Once you have found a book, select it.
If the Book is in the Library there will be a green triangle that says "IN" in the top left-hand corner.
If it is out, there will be a red triangle marked "OUT"
3. Locate the Call Number and Find the Book
For fiction Books
In this example, the Call Number is F LIN
The "F" indicates that the book is in the Fiction Section; as does the Sublocation
The "LIN" tells you where the book is within the Fiction Section
The Fiction section is organized alphabetically by the first three letters (LIN) authors last name (Linden). See Image Below.
For Non-Fiction Books
Non-Fiction Books are organized Alpha-Numerically.
First they are organized by number, in this case 282
Within the 282 books, they are organized Alphabetically.
In the following example, this book would appear between Call Numbers 282 MCB and 282 NOO. See Image Below.
