Week of September 26-29
Printing With Nature Outside the Studio
Many of the children chose to work with Billie, our Art Studio teacher, on the porch for our morning work time. The children used natural materials such as pine needles, sweet gum pods, and pine cones collected in our school's yard. The children experimented with the different marks their nature piece made with paint. Some of the marks overlapped and a few of the children noticed a new paint color that was not there before!
Nature Observations
We came back to school on Tuesday to more rain and muddy puddles! The climbers were closed so some of the children chose to explore and observe their surrounding environment. What can you find? A few children carried baskets to collect their findings and take a closer look with magnifying glasses. Other children participated in creating an observational drawing with a clipboard and pencil in hand.
Little Blue and Little Yellow Movie Premiere
Giving out tickets to get into the movie!
Billie collected everyone's tickets and we took a seat.
It's showtime!
We even ate special chips after the movie viewing.
Arlene and Susan's cohort worked so hard and everyone gave them the biggest applause, we are so proud of them!
What's Happening in the Block Area this Week?
Trains were intoduced to the Block Area this week and inspired a few children to make a bridge and a train station.
Inspired by a creation from Parents Night, collaborative building takes place to build a similar structure.
A few of the children enjoying dramatic play in the Block Area with dolls.
"All aboard the choo choo train in the West Yard!"
Week of September 18 - September 22
Working with Clay
This week, we began to experiment with a new material in the art room - clay! Clay is a great sensory experience for the children as they explore rolling, pinching, or pressing it. As they explore, they are also building motor skills by working the muscles in their hands and fingers. Clay is also a great material for creating as it allows the children to represent forms in a three dimensional matter, instead of the two dimensional representations that they do through drawing or painting.
First Birthday Assembly
Each month, the whole school gathers in assembly to celebrate all of the children and staff who have birthdays that month. On Wednesday, we celebrated all of the August and September birthdays. Everyone with a birthday in August or September gathered and walked around in a circle as the rest of the school sang the "Happy Birthday" song. They also received a special birthday lei, and everyone got birthday chips!
Happy Birthday to our August/September birthdays - Austin, Max, Landon, and Danielle!
Art Studio with Billie
This week, the 5 day group was able to have their first studio time with Billie. Each week, Billie will take a small group of children to either her art studio or an outdoor work space, and will teach them about different art concepts. This week, Billie introduced the children to wet glue and different collage materials. Children used glue brushes to apply colored glue onto their paper and then added a variety of different materials such as fabric, decorative paper, and small tile pieces.
When life gives you a rainy day, play in the puddles!

Week of September 11 - September 15
Chefs in the Mud Kitchen
Many of the children discovered the wonders of the mud kitchen their first week of ACP! Some of the children were baking "big big muffins" while others were making pancakes. The children have been using their imagination as they explore natural materials such as rocks, acorns, sticks, sand, and pine cones!
Tomatoes, Basil, and Snap Peas- oh my!
The garden is a serene place for the children to enter and explore their senses. Many of the children were curious upon seeing all of the beautful flowers and vegetables that have grown over the summer. Throughout the year we will be doing a lot of exploring, planting, and tending to the garden. We are always looking for parent helpers to join our Garden Committee! If you are interested please contact Zach.

Start thinking about snow gear!
Although this week has been 90 degrees, the cold will start to creep up quickly. We plan on taking the children outside as much as possible all year, so they will need snow pants/overalls, coats, mittens, and boots for very cold or snowy days.
