Week of December 18 - December 20
More Sweets to Enjoy!
Thank you to ALL of our amazing parents who came to school to bake with our groups. They had so much fun participating with you all and we hoped you enjoyed them in your goodie bags you took home as well as during our celebration! If you did not get a chance to come bake or be a mystery reader, not to worry! We have plenty of time in the new year to schedule dates for you to come in and participate. It can even be a child's grandparent if you wish!
Shay's mommy, Nina, baked sugar chocolate kiss cookies! We even had a few chocolate kisses leftover Shay shared with his peers, they were happy campers!
The children have enjoyed listening to various stories of The Gingerbread Man leading up to baking our own gingerbread cookies with Hudson's mommy, Laura.
Hudson's mommy, Laura brought in gingerbread dough to roll and cut out ginger bread boys, and various different shapes! The children made their own icing and decorated their creations.
Roasting Marshmallows by The Open Fire
The children collected sticks and went out to the West Yard with their teachers and Zach to roast marshmallows before the excitement of their parents coming. By the look of their faces, they were delicious! What a fun way to start our morning!

Scrapbooks
One of our favorite traditions at ACP is creating personalized scrapbooks for all of the children. These books contain pictures of important moments or things that are special to each individual child. They also contain pieces of work such as paintings, collages, or even books that your child made!
We sent the scrapbooks home on Thursday and we hope you enjoy looking through them with your child and family. Please remember to bring them back to school in January so that we can continue to add to them!
Bird Feeders
One important part of our Winter Solstice celebration is hanging bird feeders all over our schoolyard. We talk to the children about how the birds sometimes have trouble finding food in the winter, especially if it snows. We string cereal (Cheerios and Froot Loops) onto pipe cleaners, and then twist them into loops so that they are ready to hang on the tree branches. This can also be a great math activity for the children to count the cereal and talk about the colors they are using or the patterns they are making.
Sharing Family Holiday Traditions
Matthew and Riley's mom, Courtney, shared a tradition with Rachel's group that her family does at home. Every year, Matthew and Riley create a new ornament to decorate their house for the holidays with!
We created Christmas trees and decorated them with glitter and a variety of collage materials.
Snow Creatures Continued
Our snow creatures finished coming together this week! The children went through several available materials to decorate their snow creatures. Would they pick googly eyes or buttons for eyes? A carrot nose or an acorn nose? So many scarves to choose from! Each child put a lot of thought into their work in order to make their creature their own.

We welcomed two more Mystery Readers this week!
Imogene's mom, Emily, read "Imogene's Antlers"
Audrey's mom, Amy, read "Be Brave Little One"

The beginning of another fun project in the Art Studio...creating snow creatures! The children are choosing to glue on snow shoes, sleds, tires, and skis- oh snow fun! We can't wait to share updates on their work in progress soon.
First we glued our pinecone.
Then we rolled it in snow!
