In order to graduate, all Amistad High School students must complete a total of 40 hours of service learning over their four years of high school.
This year, due to COVID-19, this requirement is waived for all seniors.
Here at Amistad High, we define service learning as volunteer activities (meaning you do not receive payment for your work) that aim to help an organization, a cause, or a group of people.
Ideally, this service will aim to benefit others while also letting you exercise new skills and learn more about the community!
To keep track of your hours
Make sure to complete the all new Service Learning Credit Form* each time you volunteer!
Then submit a copy or photo of the Service Learning Credit Form* to the Service Learning Hours Log
To find info on previously earned hours please visit the wolf den or email Ms. Ramirez: zoraidaramirez@achievementfirst.org
*You can print copies of the Service Learning Credit form or pick up copies in the Wolf Den or the College Suite.*

"Community service is important to me because I am invested in the health of my city. I want to see my community grow and I want to show other young people that we are responsible for creating a beautiful, livable, and vibrant city that people actually want to live in. There are so many ways to get involved and identify your passions." -Julie Hajducky, '22
"Being a mentor at PIA (Phenomenal I Am) was very eye opening for me. I saw that everyone comes from different backgrounds but it doesn’t always influence the way people act... but it definitely can. I was also able to nurture the girls who came from different backgrounds and make them feel like they had a home at camp. It was a different experience but I enjoyed it and was glad to make connections with the campers and my co-workers." -Imani Alford, '21
For the 22-23 school year, we will be awarding four students who complete the most community service within four time frames:
July 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022
October 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022
January 1, 2023 through March 31, 2023
April 1, 2023 through June 30, 2023
Within each time frame, the student who completes the most volunteer hours (& turns in their credit forms) will receive $50 to spend on items from Amazon or a store of their choice!
At the end of the year, we will award two year-long service prizes. They are:
Most Service Learning completed during the 2022-2023 school year ($100 to spend at Amazon or store of choice)
Second-most Service Learning completed during the 2022-2023 school year ($75 to spend)
"I started doing community service just as an internship because it was a requirement to graduate. After working with PIA aka Phenomenal I Am, which is an all girls camp, I built amazing relationships with the young girls and felt like I was giving them something to look forward to in the summer. So I continued to help out. We took the girls to feed the homeless every week. We were the girls’ role models, and me showing them that helping their community is a good thing motivated them to think and do the same."

All students who have completed their 40 hours of community service will receive a certificate!
