To assess racial and socioeconomic equity in network policies, Acero Schools currently uses Great Lake Equity Center’s Policy Equity Analysis Tool (2015) in combination with Puget Sound Educational Service District’s Racial Equity Tool: Policy Review Guide and Illinois Legal Aide’s ICARE Race Equity Toolkit (2016). Acero Schools is still in the process of determining which policy equity tool(s) they will formally adopt for continued use.
The Transgender Guidelines Policy was established, and continues to be revised as appropriate, to ensure a school culture that respects and values all students and fosters understanding of Gender Identity within each school. These guidelines are intended to help schools ensure a safe learning environment free of harassment or discrimination and to promote the educational and social integration of all Transgender students.
Acero Schools is committed to creating a safe and caring environment for all students that is free from bullying. The Anti-Bullying Policy defines and prohibits bullying, and outlines procedures for reporting bullying, informing parents and investigating reports of bullying.
The Students in Temporary Living Situations Policy ensures equitable access to the same quality education for Students in Temporary Living Situations and students who are permanently housed.
The Student Travel Policy was recently revised to ensure all students are afforded the opportunity to fully and comfortably participate in both educational and athletic travel. Previously required trips considered to be Eurocentric in nature were removed to allow for educators to deliberately choose educational travel that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
The Equal Opportunity Employer Policy ensures that there will be no discrimination against any qualified individual with respect to hiring, compensation, promotions or other terms and conditions of employment because of race, creed, color, age, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, civil union status, domestic partnership status, parental status, genetic information, refusal to submit to a genetic test or make available the results of a genetic test, the utilization of benefits authorized by this policy, association with the activities of any employee organization or any other basis protected by law. Furthermore, Acero Schools will make reasonable accommodation to the known physical or mental limitations of otherwise qualified applicants or employees with a disability, as required under applicable federal and state law. Applicants or employees who need accommodation should promptly notify one of their immediate supervisors or the Human Capital team in writing.
The purpose of the Animals in Schools policy is to ensure the safety of Acero Schools students when providing educational experiences that involve service animals.
The Restorative Approach within the Student Code of Conduct is a philosophy that believes relationships are central to learning and a healthy learning environment for students and adults. Our Restorative Practices focus on building, maintaining, and repairing relationships among all students and adults. Specifically in regards to anti-racism and equity, a Restorative Approach strives to eliminate inequities on the basis of race and ability within the discipline process.
The Employee Code of Conduct states that employees may not discriminate against other Acero Schools employees, students, or parents on the basis of any classification protected under federal, state, or local laws or ordinances including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, immigration status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, family/parental status, marital status, age, physical or mental disability, poverty and socioeconomic status, or language. Acero Schools employees are prohibited from enacting any adverse employment action against an employee because they have reported real or perceived discriminatory practices or filed an employment discrimination complaint.
Acero Schools is committed to providing a safe and secure work and learning environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and conduct which can be considered harassing, coercive, or disruptive. Acero Schools strives to provide a place of work and study free of sexual harassment, intimidation, exploitation, and retaliation. It is expected that students, faculty, staff and other individuals covered by the Comprehensive Title IX, Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Discrimination policy will treat one another with respect.
Acero Schools is currently in the process of revising the Academic Programming Policies and Procedures Guide to ensure inclusion of our commitment to equity for every student, culturally sustaining practices, and a guaranteed and viable curriculum that reflects and honors the identity of the scholar and offers diverse perspectives, stories, and experiences.
