We have partnered with UnidosUS to bring an educational opportunity for our padres comprometidos "committed parents." Through the challenges the global pandemic present, our parents have continued to meet online weekly. We are so proud of our 62 graduates and we look forward to expanding this program!
Human Capital Deputy Chief Delia Smires and Strategy and External Affairs Director, Tim Lyons, were able to engage with fellow UnidosUS partners and Walmart to secure vaccination opportunities for all interested Acero colleagues.
Acero strives to use equity as the lens in all we do. In early 2021, we worked with CORE to orchestrate a FREE opportunity for community members to get tested for COVID-19 without fuss or complications at Soto High School. The February 26 event proved to show a high number of positive COVID-19 tests. CORE reached out to see if Acero would host a second event for the benefit of our community and its health. Hence, the March 19 follow up. We thank CORE and all our volunteers at Soto High School who helped make this happen.
This year Acero held its first-ever Carrera del Pavo virtual 5k run/walk. Acero scholars, families, staff and community members came together to race via an app over Thanksgiving break. We had a great turn out for our first year with 191 participants, raising over $3,000! All proceeds raised benefited Acero Athletics as well as the non-profit, The Love Foundation.
