MS-DEED programmE at IISER Pune
The programme aims to create a dynamic ecosystem of high-quality education through training and up-skilling of UG/PG teachers from higher education institutes (HEIs) in Maharashtra.
Educators are leaders for a transformative change. We are committed to capacity building of educators through professional development programmes designed to suit specific needs of teachers at various levels.
We have explored approaches such as inquiry-, research- and activity-based pedagogy to identify tools that can be adapted by teachers to develop their own capacities to suit age-group, language and socio-economic background of students.
Our programmes provide a platform for teachers to meet their peers, form professional networks and exchange ideas & challenges in teaching and education.
The implementation phase has two main components:
Level 1 Introductory (online/ in-person) Workshops (asynchronous & synchronous sessions)
Level 2 In-person Intensive Training (theory and lab sessions)

Aimed at introducing
Effective Strategies of Teaching Science and Mathematics to UG/PG teachers.
Conducted in online as well as in-person modes.
Level 1 Introductory Workshops (asynchronous & synchronous sessions): includes a module on topics such as active learning, defining learning outcomes, inquiry-based teaching, and assessment methods etc. followed by subject wise breakout sessions focusing on the subject-specific pedagogies and activities. There are pre-and post-workshop activities to engage the participants.
These are conducted at various collaborating institutes in Maharashtra.

Aimed at
Capacity Building of teachers to become Effective Educators and Master Trainers to
conduct workshops at regional level.
Level 2 In-person Intensive Training (theory and lab sessions): is a residential workshop at IISER Pune. Educators are introduced to modifying and blending theory and lab courses to promote student engagement and critical thinking skills. Focus is also on developing these educators as Master Trainers so that they can conduct faculty development activities and workshops at their own region. During Level 2 workshop, we conduct lab sessions, do collaborative assignments, acquaint teachers to subject/field experts and their experiences, and revisit core philosophies of Science and Mathematics education.
These are conducted at IISER Pune.

Aimed at introducing
Inquiry and Critical Thinking to UG/PG students with teachers.
Conducted in in-person mode.
Student_Teacher workshops aims to enhance learners' skills in inquiry-based learning and critical thinking using active learning, group work and reflective-learning methods etc. Student centric open-ended labs and subject specific sessions focus on promoting construction of their own understanding of the subjects they learn in classrooms. There are pre-and post-workshop activities to engage the participants.
