Maharashtra State Development of Educators and Enhancement in Delivery (MS-DEED) programme aims to enhance the quality of education by up-skilling undergraduate/postgraduate teachers and, in turn, of students from higher education institutes in Maharashtra. 

Our program aligns with the National Education Policy 2020 and focuses on developing critical thinking and higher-order skills through inquiry, research, and activity-based pedagogy. We offer professional development programs tailored to specific needs and provide a platform for teachers to network and exchange ideas building a community of practice. The program is designed for in-service motivated, early career and enthusiastic faculty members teaching science and mathematics subjects in universities or colleges affiliated with universities across Maharashtra. 

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune is delighted to collaborate with the Maharashtra State Faculty Development Academy (MSFDA) to develop and run a comprehensive professional development program aligned with National Education Policy 2020 expectations: MS-DEED Program for the in-service undergraduate/postgraduate (UG/PG) teachers. Educators are leaders for a transformative change. We are committed to capacity building of educators through professional development programmes designed to suit specific needs of teachers at various levels.

The implementation phase has two main components:

Level 1 Introductory (online/ in-person) Workshops (asynchronous & synchronous sessions) at various districts of Maharashtra

It includes general modules on topics related to effective teaching, subject wise breakout sessions focusing on the subject-specific pedagogies and activities, followed by sessions on assessment strategies and action planning. There are pre-and post-workshop activities to engage the participants and help assess the motivation, capacities, and skills of these teachers to be trained as Master Trainers during the intensive second component of the program.

Level 2 In-person Intensive Training (classroom and lab sessions) at IISER Pune

The 'training the trainer' (ToT) workshop is for developing a pool of Master Trainers that would engage nodal centers and train fellow teachers in a cascade model. In-house and external experts deliver the Master Trainers training modules from science, mathematics, research, and education fields. The in-person workshop involves training Master Trainers in effective classroom engagement as well as laboratory-based inquiry-oriented pedagogies. ToT aspect of cascade workshops is also emphasized during the workshop.
