The Bottle Crusher and Deflator activity demonstrates air expansion and contraction through simple temperature changes. This activity starts by pouring cold water over a closed bottle, causing it to implode due to air pressure differences. When hot water is poured over the same bottle, it expands again. In the next phase, a balloon is attached to the neck of the bottle, and the bottle is heated, causing the balloon to expand as the air inside the bottle warms and rises in pressure. When the bottle is cooled in cold water, the balloon contracts and even gets pulled into the bottle, demonstrating the effects of air pressure and temperature on gases.
Learning Objective:
To understand how temperature changes affect air pressure and volume through the expansion and contraction of gases, exploring fundamental principles of thermodynamics and air behavior.
Keywords:
Air expansion, Air contraction, Thermodynamics, air pressure.
