The Learning Log assignment for each lesson is intended to teach students strategies for learning and processing information from class.
This will also inform families about the student's work habits and productivity during class time.
The document linked HERE explains each of the assignments that are part of the learning log and the rationale behind them. Students will be given class time to work on these assignments but can also use time outside of class.
A Learning Log checklist for each lesson will be available for students in class to use to help them keep track of what they need to do.
Almost every class period will involve some type of activity where students get to do science, not just read about it! Check out a picture of our classroom that is ready for experimenting!!
Lab grades are based on..
Productivity during lab time.
Did they finish the planned activity with their group?
Work Habits:
Did they contribute to the group's successful completion of the lab?
Work Quality:
Is their lab sheet completed neatly? (handwriting is still important).
Did they use good writing? (restate the question, write in complete sentences with good grammar and punctuation?)
For each topic of study we will start on a "Quest" for the answer to a problem. Students will use what is learned during the topic to help them come up with a solution to the quest problem.
These projects will be completed in-class. Students get a chance to creatively apply what they have learned and be a problem solver using scientific and engineering techniques.
Each topic's project will have items listed in the Google Classroom that need to be completed for students to be eligible for an A on the assignment.
Pretty much the only homework students will have will be to practice vocab words. Mastering the vocabulary will help students understand the situations where these terms are used in class and in the real world.
There will be vocab games posted to the Google classroom and students will be directed to practice until they reach at least an 80% proficiency. The program will record their best score. Their progress will be checked the day of the quiz and recorded in Skyward as a classwork/homework grade.
Here is an example of one of the first vocab game that will be assigned. Wayground Topic 1 Lesson 1- Describing & Classifying Matter.
