Abington Middle School is home to almost 2000 junior high students, and is the only middle school in Abington School District. The Township of Abington is a five time recipient of the America’s Promise Alliance award 100 Best Communities for Young People and Money Magazine’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in America. In addition, Abington School District has been recognized for the 10th year in a row by NAMM as one of the Best Communities for Music Education. Abington Middle School is also a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School. The band program is comprised of a 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade curricular concert band. Students meet every other day. Some days students will meet in small sectionals and other times they will rehearse as a full ensemble. Students are eligible to learn and perform any instrument in the concert band repertoire. The Abington Middle School band program has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association for its performance at several state adjudication festivals, including ratings of “Superior” for sight-reading. The band has also been awarded ratings of “Superior” at Music in the Parks adjudication festivals.
In addition to a well-balanced curricular band program, other extracurricular activities include: The A-Town Jazz Band, Pep Band, Pit Orchestra, Montco Band, and other small ensembles. The Abington Middle School Band program is one of three high level performing programs at Abington Middle School, alongside outstanding choral and orchestral programs.
