Assigned novel or text

A positive attitude and an open mind!
It is expected that each student will arrive on time to class each day with all of the required materials. This will be factored into their class participation grade.
For maximum points, assigned homework is expected to be completed by the assigned due date. Homework not submitted on time will be accepted for partial credit if the student initiates contact with the teacher on getting the work completed. It is the student’s responsibility to inform the teacher in cases where homework has been missed for valid reasons. Arrangements to respond to these circumstances will be made on a case by case basis.
Tests are given at the end of each unit/novel and they will be announced at least a week in advance. It is important for students to keep all of their notes organized and to use them to study for these end of unit/novel tests. Study guides, class notes, and Quizlets can be found in Google Classroom. Quizzes, both announced and pop, will be given periodically throughout each marking period. Please keep up with the weekly reading assignments to give yourself the best opportunity to earn a good grade.
Since research has proven that more frequent reading promotes better-developed reading skills, it is required for each student to engage in free reading during designated SSR (Silent Sustained Reading) times throughout the school year. The AJHS librarian will show students how to access books online if students are unable to obtain books from the local library. In addition, please encourage your child to read every night even when there is no reading homework assigned.
I showed the students the videos on the right at the start of the year to emphasize the importance of reading.
