Nylon Proximal Extensions

Some of our taller devices will come in two parts. Read below to check your options. 

At Abilitymade we use two different printers to manufacture our nylon parts, the HP 580 for coloured PA12, and HP 5210 for black (charcoal) PA11. Each of these printers have dimensional limits so devices outside of their range will need to be split into two parts. 

Length limit for colour 

The build limit for the HP 580 is 23 cm x 32 cm. For most single-part AFOS like a SAFO, GRAFO, or RAFO, this means that the height limit will be 32 cm and the length limit will be 23 cm. If your required device length is above 32 cm and you'd still like colour you can opt for one of the following options: 

1. Add on a TPU Distal Component to build the toeplate in a rubbery black TPU material. This option is only applicable if you would like a flexible forefoot. 

2. Add on a Rotation Charge for a Long Toeplate in COLOUR to cover the costs of manufacturing the device rotated 90° in the printer (length taking up to 32 cm). This will result in a greater amount of the device height being made from the proximal extension part. 

Height limits for black (charcoal)

The build limit for the HP 5210 is 37 cm x 37 cm. For most single-part AFOS like a SAFO, GRAFO, or RAFO, this means that both the height and length limits will be 37 cm.. If your required device height is between 37 - 47 cm this will come with a nylon proximal extension that will need to be glued and riveted together in your workshop.
