Ms. Smith graduated with her Master of Social Work degree from the USC School of Social Worker in 2016 with a concentration in Children, Youth and Families. While in her master’s program, Ms. Smith interned at Torrance Unified school District, where she was placed at an Elementary, Middle School and a Continuation High School, where she provided School-based counseling, and implemented group sessions for socio-emotional learning. She then began interning at Human Potential Consultants, an employment agency for Veterans, where she assisted Veterans with job readiness programs, implemented workshops for resumes and job interview skills. During her final graduate year of internship, she interned at Every Child Restorative Justice Center, in Inglewood, California. At ECRJC she served as the Leading Case Manager who handled the higher profile cases. When Ms. Smith graduated from USC, she accepted a position at the Department of Children and Family Services, with Los Angeles County, as a Children’s Social Worker. Ms. Smith served children and families, experiencing child abuse and neglect. With most cases, the goal was to help children who were placed into foster care, reunify with their biological parents, while providing the families with community resources to assist them in completing Court orders. If the Dependency Courts did not grant reunification services, then Ms. Smith’s goal and mission was to help foster youth find permanent residency. Ms. Smith is registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences of California with the ultimate goal of becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Ms. Smith is excited to be at Gahr High School and is ready to service the needs of not only our students, but their families, and community as well.
