We would like to welcome all new parents and carers to the school and introduce the St Machar Academy to new and existing parents and carers.
The parent council is a committee appointed by the parent forum to run matters on its behalf. A parent council is not run by the school or the local authority but by parents and carers in the school. The local authority supports the parent council both financially and with advice and support.
Every school in Scotland has a parent forum which consists of all the parents/carers who have a child in the school. All parents and carers are automatically members. The parent forum decides on whether they want a parent council and how it is consulted and organised.
The main aim is to try to represent the interests of all parents/carers to the school and local authority, help the school community work together and to support learning and school improvement.
We meet every term usually at 6:30pm int he school; we prefer in-person meetings however should there be a strong demand from membership we can look at hybrid or virtual meetings.
We will communicate an agenda in advance of the meetings. The head teacher will usually provide an update on important issues happening in the school where there will be an opportunity to ask questions, get involved in any appropriate work and raise any concerns. We also discuss school improvements and ways in which we can support or indeed raise funds to support the pupil experience.
The parent council meetings are NOT parent teachers meetings and are NOT the forum for individual concerns about your child's performance. The school arrange parent/teacher appointments by year group throughout the year which are completely separate from parent council.
Yes absolutely. We welcome any parent or carer and we are really keen to expand the group and meet new people with the hope that you want to get involved with school activities. Please come along and give it a try, the school needs a great parent council to support it and we cannot do this without your help.
