Resilience Group
The Resilience group helps young people learn how to work independently, remove personal barriers to learning and tackle difficult situations with confidence. Young people also get the opportunity to learn how to work collaboratively and build important team working skills.
The Resilience Group is delivered at St Machar Academy by Ms Reid through a range of individual activities or in small groups of 8-10 participants weekly for a 50 minute session over 8 weeks.

Aims
The Resilience Group aims to support pupils to develop:
resilience
self-esteem - being accepted by people whose relationships you value, and from completing tasks you value
self-efficacy - the qualities of optimism, sticking at something, and believing that your efforts can make a difference
autonomy - making decision and learning from your mistakes
This will be achieved using a range of individual activities, group discussions and working with others. Young people who are resilient tend to be more hopeful, confident and possess higher self-worth during hard times. They are more likely to overcome challenges, recognise when they need support and develop copying strategies enabling them to handle dificulties more easily in the future.
Criteria
Pupils who have low self-esteem, or those who are unable to cope when things change or something challenging happens. Parent/carer(s) can contact their child's Guidance Teacher to discuss if you would like your child to be referred.
Measured Impact
Weekly activities to match Experiences and Outcomes for Health and Wellbeing.
