This course is designed to give you an introduction to Scots and Criminal Law. This Level 6 course is ideal for S6 students considering studying Law or have ambitions of becoming a Paralegal, Solicitor or Advocate. This course gives you an opportunity to interact with legal professionals and further your understanding of the Scottish Legal System.
You will study two main units:
Introduction to Scots Law
Crime in Society
Through these units, you will learn about the impact of crime, criminal prosecution in Scotland, Tribunal systems and gain an in depth understanding of working as a lawyer in Scotland.
Please be aware this course is open to S5 pupils after discussion with a Modern Studies teacher and S6 pupils with a pass in Higher Modern Studies, Geography, History, RMPS or English..
You will receive regular feedback on your progress from internal assessments (there is no final exam)
What will be different in S6?
You will take on increased responsibility for your own learning. There are a number of outcomes that need to be completed in this course. You will learn through group work and individual tasks, but also more practical activities such as participation in a Mock Trial.
Assessment is continual and involves a variety of different outcomes.
