Changing Scotland and Britain, 1760-1960

In this unit, you will study the migration of Scottish people, the Industrial Revolution, as well as the development of modern Britain. Throughout this unit you will gradually be introduced to National 4 and 5 skills, which will prepare you for further study in S4.

200 Years of Changing America

In this unit, you will study how America was created and how it changed over time, focusing on issues such as the American War of Independence, the American Civil War, Westward Expansion and Civil Rights. You will also complete a research task on an area of history of your choosing.

Near War, Near Miss: The Cold War

In this unit, you will look at the conflict which started between the USA and the USSR after WWII, how it impacted the world (e.g. the Berlin Wall), how Britain was involved and how these two superpowers made everything into a competition.

Research Assignment:

You will have an opportunity to complete a piece of independent research on a historical topic of your choice. This will prepare you for the National 4 and 5 History AVU in which you will be expected to choose a historical question, research it and write up a report using your findings.

You will study historical issues in more detail. You will also look in further depth at source question skills. You will further develop your skills in researching and have more responsibility to work independently. This will prepare you well for the transition to National 4/5.

History can lead to a future in public administration, business management, law, museum work, teaching, journalism or many other subjects.
